Whale: Hope
Wood Sculpture

Standing on the back of a whale, a figure scans the horizon, preparing for life's possibilities during a time of great change. The whale is crafted from cedar, which is carved using a band saw and finished with a sander. The figure, made from poplar, is sculpted with a rotary carver. The pieces are finished with layers of latex enamel paint. A hand-painted poem adorns the underside of the whale, adding further meaning.
The poem, "Oceans", by J.R. Ordonez reads:
I have a feeling my boat has struck down there in the depths, against a great thing. And nothing happens! Nothing .... silence... waves.... nothing happens? Or has everything happened, and we are standing now, quietly, in the new life?
