Arraiolos Azulejos
Watercolor Painting
Created by
Meredith Nemirov
"Arraiolos Azulejos" is a watercolor that was painted while the artist was in residency at Cortex Frontal in Arraiolos, Portugal. It shows a cork tree with the pattern from a historic azulejo, a ceramic tile. The blue and white color is traditional and the cork tree, or sobreiro in Portuguese, grows all over the Alentejo region. The artist visited the Museu do Azulejo in Lisbon before the residency to do research into the history of tiles in Portugal to use in future works. This piece ships rolled.
