Just a Moment

Twilight glows through rolling storm clouds in Long Beach on the Southern California coast. This exploding light show only lasted moments. The artist painted using a reference photo. The complexity of color layers in this twilight sky challenged her like no other painting. She added thin layers of oils then set the painting aside, glancing at it from a distance to feel if she was close to achieving her desired effect. For a couple of months she went back and forth from dark to light, saturated to muted colors, until she knew that her experience of the painting was what she felt when she saw that twilight sky in person.

This work is rendered in many layers of oil paint on gallery-wrapped canvas with the image continuing around the sides. It is ready to hang. No framing is necessary.
