Cynthia Eddings

Cynthia Eddings Studio

"As a contemporary American impressionistic artist, I use paint to interpret the essence and feeling of place. Rather than copying the subject, my intention is that the expressive quality of the paint itself becomes its own magical language. "

Eddings loves the magic of how paint comes out of a container and can be used to create color, texture, light, and atmosphere. Exploring the materials used to make a painting keeps her creating. It is the illusion of a place or the conjuring up of a sensitive feeling from looking at a finished piece that keeps her excited about waking up each day wondering what's next.

Cynthia Eddings works on a ridged surface. This allows for a reductive process in which paint can be sanded, scraped, and layered. She works in oil, acrylic, and wax, sometimes all three combined in luminous layers. She paints on location as well in her studio, which is an old one-car garage where she can refer to photos taken while she is out exploring the area around Santa Monica and Los Angeles.

Cynthia Eddings studied fine art at Pepperdine University in Malibu. Though she has been mentored by several great painters, including Joe Piasentin, Stuart Shils, Michael Workman, Len Chmiel, and Peggi Kroll Roberts, most of her training comes from mixing paint and working in the studio daily. Eddings has been presented with several awards for excellence in painting.
