Canyon Walls: OBO M+ Triptych

These pieces are made of 85 percent abaca fiber handmade paper. When the pieces are dry, they are painted with gesso on all sides to seal the paper. Fired and patined copper is adhered to the paper, and a cement mixture is spread on the bottom two-thirds of the piece below the metal to form the cracked surface. After the cement dries it is carefully sanded, and the top quarter of the cement is stained with a thin wash of black paint. Encaustic is worked over the cement to create a deep rich cracked surface. Each piece is unique one of a kind and will vary slightly.

The top third is troweled and textured with joint compound, then sanded and sponge painted three times with a variety of rust and golden colors. The use of handmade paper for the canvas gives an organic feel to the piece and has the added benefit of being very lightweight for hanging.This set of work weights about 10 lbs. in total. The pieces are wired and can be hung without a frame. Each piece is unique and will vary slightly
