Chinese Crimson Star

This artwork was painted with acrylic paint which contains mica to create luminosity. Holes have been drilled into the painted gourd on which to attach the pine needles. The coils are a combination of open coils (the pine needles can be seen) and closed coils (pine needles covered by thread). The second and third rows are created with jute. The cut of the gourd creates star sections The floating coils are closed coils to help accentuate the red color. The final rows are twisted among themselves.
