Layered Screen Pendant

Mixed-Media Pendant Lamp

Created by Jerry Davis
The body of this light is made up of twenty five, double hemmed strips of overlapping bronze screen door screen. Each strip is cut to a varied length and width and then the edges are hemmed by folding them over about 1/4". A second fold-over is added to insure they can't fray. A hole is placed in the center of the strip so they can be laid on top of each other over a short all-thread nipple. After the last strip is applied, a hammered copper, slightly domed, disk is added to cap off the top of the fixture. It hangs via a stem piece of copper tubing that can be any length up to 24". This can be determined, by the client, at the time of the order. It can also be mounted, close to the ceiling, with a single chain link to the canopy. The canopy is made from a material called Paperstone. It is a "Green" product that is produced from compressed paper and primarily used for counter tops. It can be sanded and polished to give a very nice finished look to the light. Another hammered copper disk is added to the center to complete the transition. All the copper parts are oxidized and rubbed with a wax coating. The fixture features a porcelain socket in an oxidized copper socket cup. It will take up to a 100w incandescent or LED equivalent bulb (included).
