Hughes & Templin

Katzie Hughes & Scott Templin

"We aim for a formal clarity, experimenting with simple, graphic shapes that are at times solid and smooth or broken into organised, open structures."

Their international lives and background in European design has greatly influenced the style & approach to their work. Both are fascinated by the process of architectural evolution in the many big cities they have lived and worked in; the juxtapsoition of the ultra-modern upon the old & ancient, a fusion of styles that is also the essence of their work. It is a reflection of where they have lived.

They use traditional materials and techniques to create a style that has been described as architectural; hollow mounted contemporary, geometric jewelry with single & repeat shapes that can be worn in variable ways. They are all about design, so there are diamonds & high carat gold, or a piece is gold-plated, whatever best reflects the effect they are trying to achieve in a particular piece.

Katzie graduated from Middlesex University, London with a BA in Jewelry in 1984. She relocated to northern Bavaria, Germany in 1991 where she met husband & partner Scott, originally from Montana. He owned a bistro before retraining as a jeweler with Katzie. They built a business that took them all over Germany & Europe. After a visit to Montana in 2014, they decided to relocate there in 2018.
