Dacha

Fiber Wall Hanging

Stepping away from the city is a bit of a departure in this artist's work, but she has fond memories of her childhood summers spent at the dacha. A dacha is a Russian summer home that is usually cobbled together from bits and pieces, no insulation, no indoor plumbing, and sometimes even an outdoor kitchen. This artwork is cobbled together from scraps of fabric and paper. Stitched together like a romantic summer memory. Made from silk, silk velvet, wool/silk blend, recycled fabric scraps, tulle, embroidery floss, rayon thread, silk thread, cotton thread, paper, oil pastels, acrylic paint, and fabric dye using digital manipulation, free-hand machine embroidery, hand stitching, painting, and collage.
