Deep in a canyon where the Escalante River flows in Southern Utah's Escalante Wilderness, stands a single cottonwood tree. Against a red sandstone wall it starts to make it's transition to the yellow colored leaves of fall. Thompson captured this iconic southwest image on medium format film.
