Red Wiggly Waves

Inspired by river water, this stoneware tile composition starts out as wheel-thrown tiles. After sketching the basic design in the clay, the artist hand carves recesses and then adds clay to create significant dimension. She sprays the glazes onto the surface in one direction to create contrast with the neutral clay. Layering at least three glazes encourages the glazes to work together, making texture, richness, and range of color.
