The Lizard Loves Red
Created by Lisa Scroggins
This white, earthenware vase is first wheel thrown. The lizard is then hand-sculpted with meticulous detail and added to the shoulder of this vase so that it looks like it could turn its head or perhaps scamper away at any moment. Once bisque fired, several layers of bright, rich red underglaze are brushed on and turquoise blue spirals are painted in a pattern on top. The lizard is carefully painted in sharp black and white stripes. The piece is signed on the bottom and a clear gloss covering glaze is brushed on inside and out. The vase is fired in the kiln once more. This is a beautiful, eye catching piece looks lovely on its own or holding a bouquet of fresh flowers. Each piece is unique and slight variations in composition, dimensions, and colors may occur.
