For a recent series of bottle vases, the artist first made paper maquettes to try out ideas. One material that came to hand was a roll of corrugated cardboard, which suggested some interesting textures. One of those was explored here. After forming the bottle, the artist rolled out thin sheets of clay, pressed them on a ribbed mold, painted them with colored underglazes, and pressed them to the surface. To maintain the soft matte colors, the vase was left unglazed on the outside. Inside is a rich rust brown glaze.
