In Your Hand

The artist uses the boat as a symbol of our life's journey and the small bird on the bough is a symbol of the inner voice that keeps us on the right track. The large hand can be interpreted in many ways.

The large hand and boat are made of stoneware clay. They are slab built, each of the components are made separately and then combined. The surface is smoothed, textured, then slip is applied. After the first firing, artist-made glaze is applied and then selectively wiped away to create a worn look. The boat is placed in the palm with recycled glass that melts in the firing. Each is made individually and may vary.
