Reaching for Water
Art Glass Sculpture
Created by
David Jacobson
This is a hot-sculpted glass bird sitting on a blown glass rock. Bird is decorated with glass frit and glass canes of various colors. The rock is made up of lavender frit and black and white accent frit. Jacobson strives for the precarious balance of the bird just landing on the rock. In making the bird, the artist heats it, pulls and stretches it, and pinpoint heats it with a small torch so he can manipulate smaller areas with control. This bird does balance on its own, but the bird is permanently attached to the rock for security.
