Marc Petrovic

Petrovic Glass

"I believe glass is a magical material, and as a glass sculptor, I play the role of magician. My goal is to enable the audience to believe in my glassy alternative reality. Through inventive processes and techniques, I create work that manifests the illusion of vitality in the objects I create."

Marc Petrovic has been skillfully creating unique objects in glass for more than twenty-five years. His attention to detail and remarkable ability to imbue an object with life are the hallmarks of his work. Each piece is created freehand, sculpted using molten glass from the end of a blowpipe, masterfully encapsulating the flow and vitality of both the subject and the material.

Petrovic is known for his innovation. One of the first studio glass artists to use a hand torch and flameworking techniques in the hot studio, he achieves the highest level of detail and control. Gathers of clear glass from the furnace are sifted with colored glass powders, then hot sculpted and shaped with hand tools—no molds are used. His work is a conversation between the artist and the material.

Marc Petrovic received his BFA in glass from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1991. He attended a career-changing class at Pilchuck Glass School in 1990 taught by Pino Signoretto and William Morris. Petrovic has maintained a private studio since 1991 with his wife, Kari Russell-Pool. He is dedicated to a vision for his work, which has led him to continued innovation and many opportunities to teach internationally.
