Art Glass Sculpture

Created by Martin Ehrensvard
Birds will always stir our imagination; they don't seem to be bound by the same laws of nature that we are. Flight inspires dreams of limitless freedom which Ehrensvard hope to experience every time he goes to sleep. They express pure unconditional joy by singing in all weather, and they bear coats that celebrate the whole range of vibrant colors. Ehrensvard put a lot of attention to the coloring of this bird. He layered transparent colors over a white bubble. He blows the bubble into a mold which creates ridges where the colors blend and align into stripes. He twists the stipes into a spiral pattern and transfers the design to a different pipe to place the center of the swirl on the side. He adds more glass to increase the size and to give the color depth, and he shapes the body using tongs, tweezers, and newspaper. Pieces of glass canes bent into swirls are added as crests and beak. Ehrensvard has been working on his bird series since 2018. He evolves his work by pushing the scale, complexity, and color. Birds are a signature shape of his brand.
