Aquamarine Koi Pond
Art Glass Sculpture
Created by
Tomo Sakai and Eric Cruze
Kilncast and polished glass with an aluminum base. To create cast glass sculptures, molds are placed in the kiln, charged with glass, and fired at high temperature. Extensive grinding and polishing in the cold shop is required to finish the piece.
Growing up in Japan, Tomo would often catch glimpses of koi fish in her daily life—near the train station, at the park, on the way to school. Wherever there was water, one could often find koi. She wanted to capture that feeling of surreptitiously seeing koi in a small pool of water.
