Aqua, Gold, and Hyacinth Ellipse

Art Glass Sculpture

Created by David Patchen
Bold and vibrant, this blown glass sculpture is created using the technically demanding murrini technique. Patchen creates dozens of patterned glass tiles and composes them into a mosaic, fuses them, and begins the blowing process. He switches the hot glass pattern from one blow pipe to another to create the flower-like pattern in the center of this work.

This Ellipse is composed of murrini with bands of transparent hyacinth and gold around a center of aquamarine. Fine white borders frame the patterns throughout. This piece has a flattened profile and is double-encased in clear glass for great depth, optics, and stability.
