Zebra Platter II

Art Glass Platter

Created by John Gibbons
This is a lengthy process of glass blowing techniques. John has to first blow a white glass cup, about the size of a pint glass, and put it into a 1000 degree oven for later use. Then, he begins rolling up black rods of glass onto a clear bubble, which are twisted into a spiral. Next, a hole is poked on the side of the bubble and a new blow pipe is placed into the hole while shattering off the old blow pipe. The black twisted bubble is then blown into the white cup and shaped into a sphere. Just before the bubble is spun out into a platter, a molten bit of turquoise glass is wound onto the lip of the bubble. The bubble is then spun into a platter.
