Shadows Beneath the Chicago L
Created by Jeff Darrow
On a clear summer day several years ago, Darrow put his mountain bike in the back of the car and drove down to Chicago to take reference photos of the "L," Chicago's famous elevated rail system. Many times that afternoon, he looped The Loop on his bike, taking two or three hundred images. "Shadows Beneath the L" was painted from a very interesting section of the "L" where it makes a 45 degree turn. Darrow finds the jumble of the metal work mesmerizing—and the challenge to make sense of it all in paint equally so. It is acrylic on canvas mounted on board.
