Abstract acrylic on canvas. The artist uses palette knives, scrapers, and brushes to start, having no pre-conceived notion about where the composition might lead. Guthrie trusts the process she has been developing over time, leaving color scraped, and then opaque shapes that surround the areas, giving depth to a 2D work. Once she determines that the composition provides unity, the painting is considered done.

Edges are painted with a neutral color in acrylic.
