Lynne Taetzsch

ARTBYLT

"Painting is an adventure where I discover color, form, and line in a new way on each canvas. "

For Lynne Taetzsch, each new blank canvas is a challenge and an adventure. She paints standing up at an easel, listening to music, responding spontaneously to the image in front of her. She is in love with color, form and movement—exploring new paths for the eye to take as it sweeps the emerging composition.

Instead of using paint to carry out a visual idea, she discovers the visual idea through the process of creating it. She works on a painting over many days, adding layers that accumulate without totally eradicating the previous images. The process of painting in broad gestures with a brush or palette knife gives her work its sense of intense energy.

At The Cooper Union in New York City, Taetzsch studied life drawing and two- and three-dimensional design, but she also fell in love with the abstract expressionist painters she saw in the galleries downtown. Her own art became more abstract until she found a way to express herself through gesture and improvisation. Today, her paintings are exhibited widely and collected by individuals and institutions throughout the world. She paints in her home studio in Ithaca, New York.
