Aspen Map Three
Created by Meredith Nemirov
On-site ink drawing of an aspen tree made on recycled antique topographic maps. The trees are then completed in the studio using gouache paints. The artist has always used maps to represent the land that the trees are planted in, sometimes actually turning the markings on the trunks into glyph-like map forms or, in this case, using an actual map as the background and support. Varnished and mounted on a white cradled wood panel. Ready to hang on the wall or sit on a shelf or ledge. The idea is to create a small mediation piece, an icon of a tree.
