Werner Rentsch's devotion to his subjects carries him up and down America's East Coast. From Florida to Virginia, Maryland to New York, he tracks his equine models—race and Olympic horses as well as polo and work breeds—and captures them at rest in the familiarity of their surroundings. He has also spent time in Africa getting acquainted with the remarkable wild animals that are the subjects of his most recent work.
Though he works predominantly in oil, Rentsch has also exhibited some limited edition prints and works in charcoal. Commissioned to paint formal portraits of many race and show horses, he is equally well known for his images of animals in informal landscapes.
Rentsch is a lifetime member of the American Academy of Equine Art and a signature member of Artists for Conservation. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and has appeared in a variety of books and periodicals.
