MF Cardamone

M.F. Cardamone

"My works are ethnobotanical mixed-media works on paper. Think stylized natural history specimens that combine images with words to create visual narratives that reveal the science, history, mystery, and beauty of my plant subjects."

MF Cardamone's works are "Botanical Documents" that explore all aspects of a plant—not just the anatomical parts, but also the medicinal, historical, ecological, and spiritual parts. These elements are juxtaposed in the composition in such a way that the work becomes a visual puzzle meant to evoke a sense of wonder in the viewer. It is through this work that Cardamone helps advocate for nature.

Cardamone use a variety of media, including collage, digital imaging, gouache, acrylics, and pen and ink. The artworks are hand embellished and produced in small editions on rag watercolor paper.

While growing up, Cardamone attended many art classes. In 2002, she also studied horticulture for three years at the Barnes Foundation Arboretum School in Merion, Pennsylvania. Additionally, the teachings that have had the most profound influence in her life came from two teachers: a fifth-generation qigong master from China and a guru from India who taught classical hatha yoga.
