Linda Beach
"The challenge of using line, shape, color, and contrast to interpret what I see is my objective. If I create something that will evoke emotion in the viewer, then I have truly succeeded."
Linda Beach's work is shaped by her love of the outdoors and a fascination with using the prints found in commercial fabrics to depict the images that inspire her. Past residencies at several national parks along with a love of travel and hiking provide continual ideas for her intricately detailed fiber art.
Beach begins each work of art with a full-size pattern in which each drawn line represents a seam line between two pieces of cloth. The possibilities and limitations of her piecing process are integral parts of the design. Consisting of hundreds of fabric pieces sewn together, each unique work of art is further enhanced by the surface pattern of the quilted stitch, resulting in a unique texture.
Beach's love of fiber art began at an early age with time spent on knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, and weaving. Ultimately focusing on art quilts, she is primarily self-taught and concentrates her energies on working full-time in her studio.
