Katherine Morgan
"As a photographer, I strive to evoke my freedom to observe. I select images that embrace me with a touch of beauty, history, emotion, intrigue, serenity, or whimsy."
Initially trained as a concert pianist, Katherine Morgan has worked to turn her lifelong passion for photography into a powerful visual statement. Her inspiration begins in the field. From the moment she discovers a beautiful flowering cactus or notices the fine interior details of a Protea flower, the final images are already beginning to take form. Working with a digital camera, Morgan focuses on the tiny details of the natural world.
Each photograph begins with light, composition, and color. Morgan captures the images as they exist, then brings them into her digital darkroom to transform them into the unique photographic world she creates. Through this process, Morgan searches to find a deeper understanding of life and to celebrate the beauty of simple moments. Each photographic image is printed with archival, pigmented inks on matte, archival-quality paper and is created in a signed and numbered edition of 50.
Katherine Morgan has a long history in multiple fields of artistic expression. After working as Senior Arts & Design Editor, Feature Story Writer, and Assistant Photographer for a Latin publication in 1990, she became a fine artist agent in 1994, arranging the distribution of works to private collectors and gallery exhibitions. She then began to sharpen her ability with the camera, and discovered that her passion for photography was a powerful vehicle for self-expression. She developed this skill as a technical device to record and catalog extensive projects for her design firm, IDI.
