Joel Anderson

"Although my photographs vary in location, they all share, I hope, the sense of optimism and joy that I felt when I shot the image. The subject matter of my photographs changes, but in each location, I've found qualities of light and landscape that communicate the brilliant power of nature."

Joel Anderson takes photographs using a 1940s wooden field view camera outfitted with modern lenses. He uses only available light, with no distortion filters. He treasures the beauty of natural landscapes and has photographed scenes everywhere from California and the American Southwest to the farmlands in his home state of Pennsylvania.

Anderson prints all of his own images in his darkroom in Pennsylvania's Lykens Valley. He uses traditional methods and archival paper known for its vivid and long-lasting prints. No digital manipulation or enhancement is involved. In a final step, he archivally washes and dry mounts each print onto museum board to ensure durability.
