"I am sketching and mark-making with glass, hand pulling glass threads over a torch and then manipulating them again with heat to make shapes. I rarely have a preconceived idea of what the piece will look like while I am working. I am exploring. "

Jacquelyne Collett's inspiration comes from the formal aspects of line, tone, shape, and texture. She is interested in the subtle nuances of line and shape. She is a designer at heart.

Collett uses minimal color in her work, but the colors she uses are reactive with each other—that is, they form an interactive border due to the oxides in the glass. Each piece is carefully kiln formed, requiring at least two firings, followed by sandblasting to get a soft, etched look on the surface.

Primarily self-taught, Collett started working with glass over forty years ago. She holds degrees in both nursing and psychology—oddly enough, that seemingly disconnected education has helped with her art. She has also trained at Arrowmont School of Art and Crafts, Penland School of Craft, Bullseye Glass, and the New Orleans School of Glass.
