Hethre Glass

"Glass allows me to connect with people on an emotional level by sparking curiosity and drawing the viewer in via color, shape, and composition. My art embodies my evolving personal and artistic journey, one of learning to trust my voice and speak my truth as an artist and human spirit."

Why glass? Why not! It's hot, dangerous, risky...and fun! As a curious person, Hethre Larivee is always seeking to understand, constantly learning and "freehanding it" as she goes. Molten glass is a complex material, with no shortage of possibilities and opportunities. For Larivee, creating with glass represents an exciting lifetime of discovery, pushing boundaries and influencing new perspectives.

Larivee employs flameworking techniques to create her glass artworks. Using a 4,000 degree flame produced by a torch, she melts durable borosilicate glass rods and tubes, carefully blowing and sculpting them using special tools into thoughtful, inspired works of art.

Largely self-taught, Hethre Larivee has been working with molten glass for over twenty years. She has studied various glassworking techniques such as flameworking, coldworking, furnace blowing, and glass casting with numerous renowned artists. Since 2000, she has shared her knowledge with others by teaching in private and public studios. In addition to blowing glass, Larivee is a certified yoga instructor and has developed a unique workshop curriculum combining glass and yoga, which she teaches at the Corning Museum of Glass and other locations.
