Hal Mayforth

"Keep the humorless guessing." -- Peter Chase"

To be honest, there is not a lot of philosophical hokum behind these paintings. They all started out as drawings in the artist's sketchbooks, in which he has been drawing in earnest since 1973. At present he has completed enough of them to fill the trunk of a luxury automobile and is working on filling a small U-Haul. Mayforth makes a concerted effort to draw every day and never knows where it will take him.

His prints are from paintings that are acrylic on wood panel. Some of them are finished with a crackle varnish and some aren't.

Mayforth considers himself lucky to have graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in fine art because he was playing rock and roll in bars throughout his college career. After moving to Boston in 1975, he decided to pursue a career in illustration and has been working as a freelance humorous illustrator for the past thirty years. Throughout his career he has balanced commercial work with personal work.
