Elisa Root

"Ideas are infinite, color is awesome, design describes feelings. Putting all these together is the most joyous thing."

Elisa Root paints what inspires her - a figure, a mixture of colors in a landscape, shapes that intrigue her. She paints to release a moods and emotions. Working with clay is visceral and physical and spiritual. Her work is less like perfect pieces displayed on a shelf and more like a favorite pair of sneakers you always turn to because of their dependable function, comfortable size, and earthy spirituality.

Elisa Root works big. She works with confident color and confident and quick lines. Root's work is fluid and loose and unabashed. Paint strokes, drips, pots adorned with rope, stones, pine needles, stacked pots all are part of her work.

Elisa has a BFA from Frostburg State University of Frostburg, MD and an MST in Art Education from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. She continues to learn and grow by taking workshops and class in all sorts of media including glass blowing, flame work, painting, and pottery/sculpture at Corning Glass Museum, Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, and Snowhill Farm in MA.
