Eldreth Designs

"I am drawn to minimalism because it is both simple and classic. I make a number of house-shaped pieces with black doors because I want to represent the idea that the door is an entryway from distraction. Other pieces have black trees because nature also represents simplicity. The cleanliness of porcelain and sterling silver helps me to achieve a minimalistic look. "

Jewelry artist Diana Eldreth works from her studio in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in the heart of Amish country. Surrounded by farmland and countryside, she is secluded from the distractions of the city, which is reflected in her work. Scattered throughout the countryside are white Amish houses, which have influenced her work.

Eldreth uses a variety of media including porcelain and sterling silver. She hand forms her sterling silver bezels so that they complement the minimalist design of the porcelain.

Diana Eldreth does not have a formal background in art and had been pursuing a PhD in developmental science. She learned ceramic techniques from her father, who is a potter. She learned metalsmithing techniques through the Maryland Institute College of Art's continuing education program. After much hard work, she has achieved a level of craftsmanship she takes pride in.
